Architect with a passion for design and leveraging computational tools to address challenges such as rising urban heat, Building’s thermal and energy performance, Urban heat stress, and the general envrionmental impact of the built environment on urban climate. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in the Sustainable Design Group (SDG) at the University of Cambridge supervised by professor Ronita Bardhan, where my research focuses on assessing the thermal resilience of buildings under current and projected climate with focus on African cities.
Research
I am a PhD student in architecture in the Sustainable Design Group at the University of Cambridge, supervised by Professor Ronita Bardhan. My research focuses on thermal resilience, specifically how the globalisation-driven paradigm shift in the design of building facades and envelope materials affects the thermal performance of buildings during extreme heat, particularly in projected climates a century from now.Beyond the scale of individual buildings, I am also interested in the impact of the urban built-environment on human health, particularly the growing challenge of urban heat stress and extreme heat events. My work aims to map the complex interplay between Urbanisation, Informality, Inequality, Urban density, green infrastructure, and climate change, and their influence, especially in rapidly growing and unregulated cities like Nairobi, where unsustainable development increases vulnerability to extreme temperatures.
Education Background
I hold a Master’s in Architecture and Urban studies from the University of Cambridge and Bachelor of architecture from the University Nairobi (UoN).
- Bachelor of Architectural studies, University of Nairobi, 2017
- Bachelor of Architecture, University of Nairobi, 2019
- Master in architecture and urban studies, University of Cambridge, 2024
Additionally, I have worked as an architect for 5 years handling varied projects across East Africa. Have a glance at some of my projects (here)
